Year of the Jewelry - Week 10: Wabi Sabi

"Wabi sabi is the beauty of things imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete, the antithesis of our classical Western notion of beauty as something perfect, enduring, and monumental." -- Leonard Koren, author of "Wabi-Sabi: for Artists, Designers, Poets & Philosophers"

This weeks YOJ challenge was exactly that - a challenge, to create a design that reflects the true connotations of Wabi Sabi.  However, I did it.  This week I took some time out from my looming and went back to the metal clays and finished working on a design I had started some time ago.

To me the pendant is the epitome of imperfection whilst retaining beauty within, maintaining the very essence of wabi sabi.  I'll let you be the judge xo

OTTBS Week 5: Earring Challange

I'm slightly behind on this challenge but this weeks submission was well worth the wait!  My beautiful daughter has been watching me play with my sead beads creating (and pulling apart) various earring designs in my quest to create a pair of earrings that I am happy with!

After many hints - a couple of weeks ago we had success in finding a pattern she would be happy with. Liz Reed's etsy shop -  The Crimson Moon  is a treasure trove just waiting to be discovered.

So here are the earrings my gorgeous girl decided on.

Year of the Jewelry - Week 3: Music

Music is the movement of sound to reach the soul for the education of its virtue ... Plato

This loomed bangle is called rhythm!  The rhythmic up and down of the pattern and the subtle tones representing musical waves epitomes the third week of the YOJ challenge - music.

Black Magic

"That old black magic has me in its spell ... that old black magic that you weave to well ... "  Johnny Mercer

Keeping with the theme of the day - this is my latest cuff using a combination of matt beads, the texture is raw but still keeps the slinky feel of my other loomed cuffs. To complete the piece an ivory pendant was attached.

Design:  Caron Reid of Caron Michelle
Materials:  Miyuki round beads, Miyuki Delicas, Tila, Swarovski Crystal
