3rd Annual Music Challenge

Welcome to the Annual Music Challenge and Blog Hop.  This is the third year of the challenge but the first for me as a participant.  The wonderful Erin from Treasures found has organized this challenge to highlight the effects of music for those with Alzheimer’s and create awareness of the organisation Music &Memories.  This challenge was one I eagerly participated in as Alzheimer’s and Dementia affects every family in some way – if not now, potentially in the future.

Basically the challenge focuses on a life changing event – the year that occurred and a song from that year that signifies the event.  For me, the year was late in 1995 with the birth of my daughter followed with the birth of my son in 1997.  However, late in 1995 at the time my daughter was born – Seal released the single “A Kiss from a Rose”.  The lyrics resonate with me- particularly the opening lines …
There used to be a graying tower alone on the sea.
You became the light on the dark side of me.
and the closing lyrics …

Now that your rose is in bloom,
A light hits the gloom on the gray.

Over the years as my children have grown and developed into young adults – they have lit my way and taught me so much about life.  They have had an amazing amount of challenges to face throughout their young lives and their aptitude and attitude embracing these challenges makes me so proud.

My cuff reflects the rose that blooms within everyone - now I can wear my rose on my wrist and be reminded when things are grey that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

So this is for my children,  I love you. x

Don't forget to check out Erin's blog to see what everyone else participating has created!

Zippy Zeb

Zippy Zeb is the sister cuff to Safari which will feature as a tutorial in the next edition of Digital Beading Magazine.  This is a variation to that design and features a working  zipper as well as detailed finishes to the back of the cuff for a comfortable fit.

This cuff isn't for the faint hearted - its about 2 inches wide and is certainly an eye catcher!

I love the design, fit and composition of the whole cuff - it's bright, loud and fabulous!

Let me know what you think!

p.s. a denim version is in the wings ....

4th Annual Challenge of Color :: ColourLovers Wordlinks

Erin from Treasures Found  runs the best challenges.  The 4th Annual Challenge of Colour - ColourLovers WordLinks is an example of this.  The challenge was to create a palette through the ColourLovers website linking the name of each of the colours to create a word twist.  (Erin explains it better!)

So without much further ado - this is my colour palette - its called Angry Fairy Demon!

These are the colours that make up the word twist!

Below is the cuff that I created to match the palette.  It is designed using my Mesopotamia Loomed Cuff pattern which is available in my Etsy shop - Caron Michelle Designs.

2nd Annual Challenge of Travel :: Staycation Edition

I missed this challenge last year but remember how much fun I had reading all the participants stories.  This year the wonderful Miss Erin has designed a challenge around your home space - "staycation" as she calls it.

Australia is an amazing country and its easy to stay at home and have a staycation.  In fact that is all I do!  There are so many beautiful natrual wonders - from the Barrier Reef to the heart of the country - so that is where I am going to take you.  Through my work I have a lot to do with remote communities - I help establish kindergarten (pre-prep for children the year before school) so I would like to visit the Central-Queensland region to meet some of the families I have spoken and email with.

As you drive inland away from the coast - the soil goes from a brown tones to a rich ochre red.  It is a fine dusty powder that works its way into everything.  White is certainly not a colour of choice to wear!  The earth is rich with stories of the past and present - dinosaur bones have been found in this region and you can walk the dinosaur trail at Winton.

The history of the Australian Aboriginal is prevalent in the outback - the stories of the dream time were woven around the fabric of our land. The Dreamtime (Tjukurrpa or Jukurrpa) can be explained as 'the time before time' when all things were created. Dreamtime encompasses the 'Ancestor Spirits' which are believed to have arrived in human, plant and animal form. The Ancestor Spirits built relationships with individuals and groups, both human and animal, and were responsible for creating the mountains and rivers. These creations are the basis of many Dreamtime stories which have been handed down through the eons of time from one generation to the next.

One such story is around the rainbow serpent. Paintings of the Rainbow Serpent first appear in Arnhem Land rock art more than 6000 years ago.  The Rainbow Snake is a creature from Aboriginal mythology. The Rainbow Serpant is depicted as a long mythical creature made of the parts of different animals - kangaroo's or flying fox's head, crocodile's tail - joined along the body of a huge python decorated with water lilies, yams and waving tendrils.

My cuff is an interpretation of the rainbow serpent.  I was blessed to have a gorgeous lampwork bead from a good friend of mine (Bead Up A Storm) and used this as the focus of the cuff.

Mythology says that in the beginning the earth was flat, featureless and grey. Then came the Dreamtime when giant creatures rose up from the plains. They looked like animals or plants or insects but behaved just like humans.  The greatest of all these beings took the form of the Rainbow Snake. The movement of his huge multicolored body across the land formed the mountains and the rivers that flow to the ocean. By lifting his tail he makes rainbows.

I hope you liked wandering through the mythology and folklore of my staycation and you enjoyed the visit to this great land.  For other blogs who are participating in the staycation - please visit:

Pearls and more pearls ....

Diamonds may be a girls best friend but pearls are her soul ...

If you haven't guessed it by now - pearls are my favourite material to work with.  There is something about the lustre, feel and look of a pearl that generates so many ideas and thoughts on how I can work them into a design.

I'm really excited about  my current design - I can't share a picture just yet - as the project is for the next edition of Digital Bead Magazine however I can give you a teaser on the materials being used.  I'm using a mixture of old and new with this design, incorporating some techniques I have showcased previously but adding a modern twist to a classic design.

Wedding Collection - Part 2

Last week I featured a recent commission for three bridesmaid cuffs.  I thought I would share with you the brides cuff as well as the earrings I made to compliment the ensemble.

The bride is wearing a comb/headpiece in her hair with oval shapped diamontees and pearls, so I sourced out some vintage montees complimented with Swarovski pearls to loom as the central point of the brides cuff.

The earrings I designed for the bridesmaid is an Ellad2 design.

The wedding is later this month, so I look forward to sharing pictures with you of the wedding party wearing my designs.
