The advent of many new beads on the market is almost overwhelming at the moment, in particular the shapes and styles prove a challenge to those who loom designs. To most, the loomed piece is a two dimensional flat design but for me, I see a blank canvas to create!
When I saw first the O'Beads, Rulla and Diamond Bead - I knew I had to do something on the loom with them. Their shapes and diversity as a bead offers many options. I have some more designs in the wings - but for the June Edition of Digital Beading Magazine, I designed two slinky cuffs incorporating all three of these beads.
The first one (white) was slightly wider and and used a slightly different edging - I love the feel of this against the wrist - wide cuffs are fabulous on the wrist. For those who weren't able to obtain all the beads, I did a variation (turquoise). They are both fun and easy to do.
If you create a design using this tutorial, please share with me - I'd love to feature your design on my website!
Enjoy!
Caron

Patterns of the Week
I am in the process of revitalising my Etsy shop and adding a range of new bead patterns. It has been fun playing with colour and design - looking at providing a variation that you don't see else where. For your viewing pleasure - here are some of the latest I have listed. If for some reason they are not available - please let me know and I'll re-list immediately.

3rd Annual Music Challenge
Welcome to the Annual Music Challenge and Blog Hop. This is the third year of the challenge but
the first for me as a participant. The
wonderful Erin from Treasures found has organized this challenge to highlight
the effects of music for those with Alzheimer’s and create awareness of the
organisation Music &Memories. This challenge was one I
eagerly participated in as Alzheimer’s and Dementia affects every family in
some way – if not now, potentially in the future.
Basically the challenge focuses on a life changing event – the year that occurred and a song from that year that signifies the event. For me, the year was late in 1995 with the birth of my daughter followed with the birth of my son in 1997. However, late in 1995 at the time my daughter was born – Seal released the single “A Kiss from a Rose”. The lyrics resonate with me- particularly the opening lines …

For me, the year was late in 1995 with the birth of my daughter followed with the birth of my son in 1997. However, late in 1995 at the time my daughter was born – Seal released the single “A Kiss from a Rose”. The lyrics resonate with me- particularly the opening lines …
There used to be a
graying tower alone on the sea.
You became the light on the dark side of me.
You became the light on the dark side of me.
and the closing lyrics …
Now that your rose is in bloom,
A light hits the gloom on the gray.
Over the years as my children have grown and developed into
young adults – they have lit my way and taught me so much about life. They have had an amazing amount of challenges
to face throughout their young lives and their aptitude and attitude embracing
these challenges makes me so proud.
My cuff reflects the rose that blooms within everyone - now I can wear my rose on my wrist and be reminded when things are grey that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
So this is for my children, I love you. x
Don't forget to check out Erin's blog to see what everyone else participating has created!

Zippy Zeb
Zippy Zeb is the sister cuff to Safari which will feature as a tutorial in the next edition of Digital Beading Magazine. This is a variation to that design and features a working zipper as well as detailed finishes to the back of the cuff for a comfortable fit.
This cuff isn't for the faint hearted - its about 2 inches wide and is certainly an eye catcher!
I love the design, fit and composition of the whole cuff - it's bright, loud and fabulous!
Let me know what you think!
p.s. a denim version is in the wings ....

4th Annual Challenge of Color :: ColourLovers Wordlinks
Erin from Treasures Found runs the best challenges. The 4th Annual Challenge of Colour - ColourLovers WordLinks is an example of this. The challenge was to create a palette through the ColourLovers website linking the name of each of the colours to create a word twist. (Erin explains it better!)
So without much further ado - this is my colour palette - its called Angry Fairy Demon!
These are the colours that make up the word twist!

Patterns
I have had fun designing with patterns again ... its been a while since I have got stuck into creating a design and the passion for playing with the bead programs was generated through a request for some specific designs. I decided to upload my patterns to Etsy - which now has some great new features including instant download and the capacity to offer a "3 for 2" offer by using a code.
Here is a sample of patterns available at present - I will continue uploading the ones I'm working on over the next few weeks.
Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy and have a fabulous day!

Pearls and more pearls ....
Diamonds may be a girls best friend but pearls are her soul ...
If you haven't guessed it by now - pearls are my favourite material to work with. There is something about the lustre, feel and look of a pearl that generates so many ideas and thoughts on how I can work them into a design.I'm really excited about my current design - I can't share a picture just yet - as the project is for the next edition of Digital Bead Magazine however I can give you a teaser on the materials being used. I'm using a mixture of old and new with this design, incorporating some techniques I have showcased previously but adding a modern twist to a classic design.

Digital Bead Magazine - Edition 4
"Happiness lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of creative effort" ... Franklin D. Roosevelt
This quote couldn't be more apt for where I am in my creative process and the goals and challenges I had set out for myself this year. I am blessed to have been given some fabulous opportunities and to have wonderful creative and passionate people who share my life and give me the support and encouragement to enjoy the simple things such as embarking with an online seller (Etsy) salivating over new bead releases and of course creatnig new designs for publication.
This leads to the subject of this post - I am thrilled that I am now a part of the Digital Bead Magazine's community and will also be a regular contributor to this awesome magazine. It is a relatively new magazine and already has featured some of the world's best designers.
For this edition I designed the "Solace" loomed cuff project. The design evolved whilst someone close to me was hospitalized due to illness and then passed away. The designing process gave me so much comfort and my colour choices reflected the beautiful person he was. Click on the link to get a sampling of what Digital Bead Magazine has to offer - you will quickly be as hooked as I am!
