3rd Annual Music Challenge

Welcome to the Annual Music Challenge and Blog Hop.  This is the third year of the challenge but the first for me as a participant.  The wonderful Erin from Treasures found has organized this challenge to highlight the effects of music for those with Alzheimer’s and create awareness of the organisation Music &Memories.  This challenge was one I eagerly participated in as Alzheimer’s and Dementia affects every family in some way – if not now, potentially in the future.

Basically the challenge focuses on a life changing event – the year that occurred and a song from that year that signifies the event.  For me, the year was late in 1995 with the birth of my daughter followed with the birth of my son in 1997.  However, late in 1995 at the time my daughter was born – Seal released the single “A Kiss from a Rose”.  The lyrics resonate with me- particularly the opening lines …
There used to be a graying tower alone on the sea.
You became the light on the dark side of me.
and the closing lyrics …

Now that your rose is in bloom,
A light hits the gloom on the gray.

Over the years as my children have grown and developed into young adults – they have lit my way and taught me so much about life.  They have had an amazing amount of challenges to face throughout their young lives and their aptitude and attitude embracing these challenges makes me so proud.

My cuff reflects the rose that blooms within everyone - now I can wear my rose on my wrist and be reminded when things are grey that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

So this is for my children,  I love you. x

Don't forget to check out Erin's blog to see what everyone else participating has created!

  1. The cuffs become a lot more meaningful when we tell how we feel! Life is too fast and we are older before we realize it sometimes. Music in my life has gotten me through a lot and teaches us how to cope sometimes. Caron I love this cuff and the Joy of knowing you, even if it is just online. We all get put together for a reason, enjoy your children. I do love mine and hope they can put up with me in my old age!

  3. Oh goodness! What a perfect embodiment of that song! I love lyrics, and these are particularly poignant when you frame it as a tribute to your daughter. Our children are the rays of light in our life and blooming so! This is a fabulously detailed cuff. So glad you shared it! Thank you for joining me in the 3rd Annual Challenge of Music. Enjoy the day! Erin

    1. Thank you so much Erin - I really appreciate your beautiful words. Its funny you mention "ray of light" I was going to do a design "little ray of sunshine" as it was the first song I heard when she was born but the song wasn't from that year! x

  4. Beautiful cuff, I love those soft, folded rose buds! I've seen many shibori ribbons designs lately, but this has to be one of my favourites. A great challenge creation!
